A Path to Wellness: Mind, Body, and Soul
Nature of Mind was founded on a deep passion for plant-based therapies and their transformative potential. The journey began in 2021, driven by a personal need for healing and a profound curiosity about the power of plant medicine. By 2023, this passion evolved into a focused exploration of the medical and scientific aspects of plant therapy, specifically its impact on mental health.
Today, with three years of experience and continued personal growth, Nature of Mind is dedicated to supporting others on their wellness journeys. By sharing firsthand experiences and evidence-based knowledge, Nature of Mind offers an affordable, holistic approach to mental, physical, and spiritual well-being through plant-based therapies.

Our Roots: From Northern Alberta to Natural Healing
Born and raised in northern Alberta, Serena Houle, the founder of Nature of Mind, grew up in a family embracing a self-sustaining lifestyle. Guided by a Cree grandmother and Métis grandfather, she learned invaluable lessons about the deep connection between nature and the land. Surrounded by animals from an early age, she developed a profound, soulful bond with them. Later in life, sacred ceremonies and spiritual quests revealed her spirit animals, deepening her connection to the natural world.

This upbringing, rooted in nature and ancestral wisdom, inspired a lifelong exploration of the spiritual and medicinal properties of plants. What began as a childhood sense of wonder in the forests transformed into a profound understanding that nature holds the medicine we need.
Nature of Mind is built on the belief that these plant allies offer transformative healing and wisdom for those ready to connect with them.
The Result of Trauma and Finding Holistics
The connection to plant medicine began as a deeply personal journey to address struggles with anxiety and depression. After years of seeking solutions and finding standard methods insufficient, Serena discovered the transformative potential of plant medicine. This became a turning point, offering the support needed to regain balance, peace, and clarity.
Growing up surrounded by individuals facing addiction, she witnessed the painful impact of unresolved trauma and the lack of resources to address these root causes. These experiences fostered a deep understanding of the importance of healing beyond symptoms, focusing on the core wounds that drive emotional and behavioral challenges.
Through extensive work with plant medicine, she has seen how natural therapies can support mental health holistically, addressing both the surface struggles and the underlying causes of pain. This journey inspired the creation of Nature of Mind to share these lessons, offering hope, empathy, and effective tools for healing.
If you or someone you love is navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD or the impact of addiction, know that you’re not alone. Nature of Mind is here to provide guidance and support, helping you explore a path toward wellness and wholeness.

Healing mental health with psilocybin involves using the active compound found in certain mushrooms to support emotional and psychological well-being. Psilocybin has shown promising results in clinical studies, helping to alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD and addiction.
By promoting neuroplasticity and enhancing introspection, psilocybin may offer individuals a deeper understanding of their emotions, behaviors, and traumas, fostering profound healing. When used responsibly in a safe, guided setting, it can be a powerful tool for improving mental health and reconnecting with one’s sense of purpose and self.
In addition to psilocybin, there are many other varieties that offer a range of health benefits. Each one offers unique benefits, and incorporating them into a holistic approach can contribute to overall well-being.

Soul
At Nature of Mind, founder Serena honors the Red Diamond Willow Fungus, or wikmasigan in Cree, as a cherished plant ally deeply rooted in her heritage. She recalls her kokum (grandmother) lighting the rare fungus to cleanse the home with its fragrant smoke, bringing peace and renewal through this unique form of smudging.
Foraging for wikmasigan is a deeply spiritual experience, guided by its distinct scent of vanilla and anise. Known as the "gem of the forest," it is incredibly rare and difficult to find, making each piece a precious gift from nature.
Over the years, Serena has been fortunate to receive pieces of wikmasigan as gifts and often keeps an eye out for it during her foraging journeys. It remains one of her favorite tools for smudging, a connection to her heritage, and a source of spiritual balance and harmony.
